BEANS THORAN / VARAVU  is a class of dry vegetable dishes combined with coconut. This common dish is usually eaten with rice and curry and is also part of the traditional Keralite sadhya.

BEANS THORAN/VARAVU

INGREDIENTS :

Beans - 250 GRAM

Grated coconut - 4 Tbsp

Green chilli - 3

Turmeric powder - 1 tsp

Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp

Shallots - 2

Oil - 3 tbsp

Salt - for taste

Water - 3 tbsp

PREPARATION :

Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. When mustard seeds start spluttering add chopped shallot. Saute till shallot become soft,then add chopped beans, sliced green chilli, turmeric powder and salt saute well.

Then add water and cover with a lid, stir in between. Next add grated coconut, cover and cook it in low flame until it is dry and fully cooked. Open the lid and saute few more minutes.

Serve with rice…..
